Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
This federal law broadly prohibits discrimination against "qualified individuals with disabilities" in virtually all aspects of employment.
The ADA requires that workers with disabilities be afforded an opportunity to attain equal levels of performance through "reasonable accommodations." These accommodations assist a mentally or physically disabled person in accomplishing their work requirements.
The Act is enforced by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and private lawsuits by affected workers.
